A Brief History of the College

Baruneswar Mohavidyalaya the premier College in the District of Jajpur, Odisha, is situated in sylvan surroundings hallowed by gracious presence of the all pervading deity Lord Baruneswar. Taking into the immense need and indispensability of higher education in this remote and rural area of Jajpur district, the college was established on 1^st January, 1980 at Lenkasahi, Arei with a missionary zeal and determination of the few elites and enlightened personalities. At first, the college was recognized by the Government of Orissa and affiliated to Utkal University for Intermediate Arts and Commerce in the year 1980. Plus two Science class was started in 1987. Degree courses in Arts, Science and Commerce were introduced in 1987, 1991 and 1993 respectively.

At present the college has 15 departments and it imparts Honours teaching in as many as 14 subjects such as History, Political Science, Odia, Sanskrit, English, Philosophy, Education, Economics, Commerce, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Zoology and Botany. The college was registered under 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC in the year 1991 and 1993 respectively. Its innate worth and all round excellence was truly judged by NAAC being accredited with 'B' level in the year 2006 & B+ grade in 2016-2017.

The student capacity of this college, by this time, has risen to 2000, the teaching staff to 42. Apart from traditional branches of learning the college provides vocational course in Information Technology at the +2 level as an elective subject. The college has vocational wing & a vibrant study centre of Odisha State Open University which facilitates programmes like Certificate course,Diploma & P.G. Diploma courses & PG in History,Odia,Pol.Science & English in Distance learning mode .The all round achievements of the college over the years have been possible due to the nourishment it derived from the Government grants and mostly the grants received from university Grants Commission RUSA. Stepping into the 42^th years of its existence, the college embarked upon a new dimension achieving qualitative and quantitative development and looks forward to reaching the pinnacle of glory. The establishment of Baruneswar college has not only added new dimension to the aspirations of the people of the area but it has also facilitated the spread of education to every corner of the district and beyond this district too.
